“The Little Guys” have always created a perfect pathway to where they are most needed. One such path began in 2020 as the COVID Pandemic was spreading around the globe. To help children and their families talk about heightened feelings during quarantine, artist Sheri Herr offered free downloads of “The Little Guys” Sculpture Images.

One year later, a contest was held to learn how the down-loaders used their images. The Contest Winner was Jennifer T., a 4th Grade Teacher. She won “The Little Guys” Sculpture Series. As schools began to reopen, Jennifer corresponded with Sheri about introducing her students to “The Little Guys.” As a result, they began to co-create InSpire for Jennifer’s students and beyond.

While InSpire continues in development, Eye Am Experience is excited to introduce the amazing students who contributed to the InSpire pilot project and to share what happened in Mrs. T.’s classroom during the 2021-2022 school year.

About

A series of Lesson Plans were created and tested to instruct teachers on how to introduce “The Little Guys” to their classrooms. Final Lesson Plans will be produced as a deck of cards that will include quick reference graphics for ease of use.

Students gathered in The Discovery Circle to begin their day. Starting with a mindfulness exercise, students pass around “The Little Guys” and share their reflections. Sometimes they listened to Mrs. T. read a book to explore and identify the characters’ emotions in the story.

“The Little Guys” Wall Posters were created to record feeling words to increase the student’s emotional intelligence and give them the ability to express their unique feelings more accurately.

Each student received 3 “Little Guys” Feeling Stones (to keep!) plus a Feeling Stones Journal. The stones were used in class and taken home with a challenge that each student design their unique way of using the stones with their feelings.

Students contributed to the Pilot Program by offering unique artwork and music compositions. They created Tips for (future) Teachers & Students, voted on the program name, and inspired Ms. Sheri with their emails and classroom Zoom visit.

Students received a Certificate of Completion and a Gift Set of InSpire Feeling Cards with matching journals to continue their exploration of feelings beyond Graduation.

Students completed a year-end questionnaire to capture feedback about their general experience with the Pilot Program and using the various types of “The Little Guys.”

Congratulations to our Inspire 2022 Graduates.
